DESCRIPTION:Opening Celebration – Friday\, September 12\, 6pm \n \n \nExhibition runs: September 13 – 28\, Sat/Sun 11 – 4 \n \n \n‘Birds have been used as symbols of freedom\, hope\, spirit\, transition\, and new opportunities since time immemorial\, in every culture\, in every era. The primary reason for this is their ability to fly\, to be free.’ \n \n \nChrisanne Blennerhasset\, Bridget Farmer\, Ken Killeen\, Jonathon Lane\, Eleni Rivers\, Jane Rusden\, and Diane Thompson are a motley flock of Castlemaine artists drawn to the avian world for inspiration\, connecting to something vital in our environment\, something precious and beautiful and wondrous and vulnerable. They are making statements about things they love\, and through their art\, hope to assist those who see the artworks to look a little closer and care a little deeper. \n \n \nThe title of the exhibition is taken from a poem by Emily Dickinson. \n \n \n“Hope” is the thing with feathers –That perches in the soul –And sings the tune without the words –And never stops – at all – \n \n \nAnd sweetest – in the Gale – is heard –And sore must be the storm –That could abash the little BirdThat kept so many warm – \n \n \nI’ve heard it in the chillest land –And on the strangest Sea –Yet – never – in Extremity\,It asked a crumb – of me. \n \n \n \n
