SUMMARY:Jeremy Forbes & Brett Davies: SHARED GROUND
DESCRIPTION:Opening Celebration: Friday May 9\, 5 – 9pmExhibition: May 10 – 25\, Sat/Sun\, 11 – 4 \n\n\n\nBrett Igmus Davies has been exploring the use of movement in his sculptures. Inspired by the works of Alexander Calder\, this exhibition will feature sculptural mobiles made from wood\, wire\, and found objects that will gently dance in the airspace above his more renowned stationary wood carvings. \n\n\n\nJeremy ‘Jez’ Forbes continues his formidable ‘shedism’ movement with exploration and inspiration in Kyoto and Central Victoria\, as well as a focus on nostalgia through Cuisenaire rods\, boardgames\, and colour.‘Shedding Verse’ is an extra-special element of this exhibition: Jez’s collaboration with poet Noa Schaerf-Trauner\, who has written poems for a selection of Jez’s paintings that will be displayed next to the artworks. Noa will also read a selection of her poems on opening night. \n\n\n\nFinally\, Jez will present a collection of paintings from his years of being inspired by sheds and his painting journey — Shedism: A Movement Is Born\, A Movement Grows.

SUMMARY:Luminate: Summer Solstice Community Philosophy Workshop
DESCRIPTION:The world is heating up. The shadows are illuminated. What happens when we pause and really see what’s around us? This Summer Solstice\, we invite you to explore what’s illuminated when we truly pay attention to where we are — in both place and time. \n\n\n\nJoin us for a community philosophy walkshop designed to help us connect with the world around us. In this two-hour experience\, we’ll practice the art of observation and collective meaning-making through reading\, walking\, and creating together. It’s an invitation to wander\, listen\, and reflect. \n\n\n\nWe’ll journey across a 1km route\, weaving threads of thought as we stop to share\, read\, and map the things that matter to us. The route includes dirt paths and some inclines. \n\n\n\nDate: Saturday\, December 21st \n\n\n\nTime: 6:00 PM sharp \n\n\n\nDeparture: lot19 \n\n\n\nPlease reach out if you have any accessibility concerns and we will do our best to accommodate your needs to ensure a comfortable experience for all. \n\n\n\nFAQs \n\n\n\nWhat is community philosophy?Community Philosophy is a practice of thinking together about the big ideas with compassion\, humility and tenderness.Who is running this workshop? This workshop is run by Dr Kelly Lee Hickey\, an artist and community philosopher. She developed her community philosophy practice through her creative PhD\, which developed a series of creative and place based practices to support communities responding to social and ecological crisis. SUMMARY:UNFATHOMABLE: Opening Celebration
DESCRIPTION:Opening Celebration: Saturday 7 December\, 2pm \n\n\n\nUNFATHOMABLE – deep\, inexplicable\, confounding\, lost. \n\n\n\nSome things are just too hard to find words for. Too raw to be exposed. Too difficult to unpack. Featuring new work by 5 central victorian artists\, this exhibition at Lot 19 Gallery in Castlemaine takes that which is hard to explain and transforms it into challenging\, beautiful\, messy\, and inspiring artworks – this is how we talk about the things that are unfathomable. \n\n\n\nMinna Graham (Musk\, 3461) responds to the emotions within grief that feel too overwhelming. Grief\, loss\, and sorrow can be too much to hold inside. Minna creates physical forms—vessels\, containers—that embody these feelings\, giving them a tangible space where they can exist and be processed. These pieces are not about finding answers\, but about creating space to hold what cannot always be said. \n\n\n\nJackie Gorring’s (Allendale\, 3364) relief prints are each a story\, like chapters in a book they come together to form something more complete and deeper than the individual story can tell by itself. Jackie chose these relief prints for Unfathomable because they represent the loss of loved ones or friends who have moved away\, or the loss of herself at times. \n\n\n\nElla Hughes (Guildford\, 3451) has created a small army of golems to hold her grief. A golem will do the work its master asks of it\, and it will keep doing it forever. “There is a culture of shame around grief\,” she says. “we’re criticised for grieving too much or too little\, too loudly\, or too quietly.” Ella has also created sculptural works that are part homage\, part portrait\, and part commemoration. Like a statue that would be created for a famous person\, these pieces pay a very personal homage to the women in her life who gifted her a love of craft\, textiles and making. Ella Hughes lives in Guildford but makes ceramics in her studio at Lot 19 in Castlemaine. \n\n\n\nWorking with found clay from around central Victoria Chandra Paul (Clunes\, 3370) has conducted numerous experiments to make vessels from the very ground beneath her. This is a highly technical and multilayered process that takes extraordinary amounts of time. Chandra says that her experiences have taught her that there is beauty in the weathered\, uneven\, transient and unfinished. Flaws are meaningful\, normal and harbour memory. \n\n\n\nDannielle Wilkinson’s (Castlemaine\, 3450) work for this exhibition\, My father called me barren\, explores the unique relationship between women and their reproductive system….in particular\, the fact that these are the only organs in the body that we are asked if we are using them or wasting them. Every woman will have a distinctly individual relationship with this part of their body and will respond differently to conversation and questions that surround it\, and every one of those relationships is valid and should be heard. \n\n\n\nThese artworks have the capacity to handle the complexity of emotions that we find hard to articulate or bear. In many ways the artworks are better at expressing our innermost thoughts and feelings than we are ourselves. \n\n\n\nGallery open 10am-4pm\, Saturday & Sunday\, 7 – 22 December.

SUMMARY:Wordspoken Edition IV: Another brick in the wall\, another slip in the fall
DESCRIPTION:WORDSPOKEN Edition IV : Another brick in the wall\, another slip in the fall \n\n\n\nJoin us at LOT 19 for a playful fourth edition WORDSPOKEN. Featuring Maggie Clare\, Patch Pheasant and Derry Doyle\, we explore matters of heart\, the infinite masks we carry and the mystery of never fully being any one thing at any one time. Expect caberet with frayed edges\, a tug on the heart strings and perhaps a flame or two. Or\, don’t expect anything… How novel. \n\n\n\nMAGGIE CLARE Shapeshifter par excellence\, Maggie dances the borders between worlds\, spooling out stories till they break and roll back to the beginning. Along the way\, she might try on the guise of poet\, carnie\, clown\, wisewoman… It all depends on which way the wind blows\, and your luck. \n\n\n\nPATCH PHEASANT Spacious cello tunes and song straight from the heart – Patch has been making musical-ish sounds for as long as anyone can remember. He draws inspiration from folk traditions\, enjoying time travelling through old tunes and bringing them to life. \n\n\n\nCurious about what all this might mean? So is he…Suggestions welcome. \n\n\n\nDERRY DOYLE Derry Doyle is the fly on the wall that rummages for romance in the mundane and spins yarns with a fiercely Australian tongue. He swears like a saint\, is sensitive as a sailor\, and never lets the truth get in the way of a good story. This will be Derry’s second contribution to WORDSPOKEN – we’re hooked. \n\n\n\nPrevious sold-out events have included performances from Felicity Cripps\, Eliza Hull\, Thumbnail Green\, Noa Dakota\, Derry Doyle\, Ezra Demcy\, Claudia Lang and Sam Thomas. \n\n\n\nSnacks & drinks available for purchase or by donation.

SUMMARY:Bonsoy Wallet Workshop
DESCRIPTION:Free Workshop \n\n\n\nIn 2024\, we’re lot19 was honoured to announce the newly created Chloe Gunn Memorial Prize. This is a new prize in memory of the bright spark that Chloe was\, for sculptures and art works made entirely from recycled materials. The inaugural Chloe Gunn Memorial Prize was awarded by Chloe’s father\, Trevor Scott\, to Taron Stanley for his work A Meeting of Minds…\, with an honourable mention going to Melissa Clark for her work 24/02/2022. \n\n\n\nChloe Scott Gunn was born in Castlemaine and completed a course in Theatre Studies at Griffith University QLD. She loved to make things  from discarded rubbish and\, in the latter years of her life\, held workshops where she taught people how to make wallets from Bonsoy cartons. An emerging artist herself\, she was only thirty when she died suddenly in 2021. \n\n\n\nOn Saturday 26 October\, lot19 will host a free Bonsoy Wallet Workshop\, with Chole’s family and friends. We would love to see you there.  \n\n\n\nAll materials supplied.
