DESCRIPTION:Smoke & Mirrors: Exhibition\, Celebration & Auction \n\n\n\nCastlemaine Clay present an exhibition and auction of works emerging from their specially built smoke-fired kiln. The kiln and works were built in a series of workshops\, and the kin fired up as part of Castlemaine Fringe’s Winter Warmer\, Smoke & Mirrors.  \n\n\n\nA fundraising exhibition and auction of smoke fired pottery\, plus exceptional pieces from local makers. Come find a treasure! \n\n\n\nExhibition: Saturday 31 August / Sunday 1 September from 10am – 4pm \n\n\n\nCelebration & Auction: Sunday 1 September at 2pm \n\n\n\nA partnership project with Castlemaine Fringe Festival – our friends and local legends.

This edition\, we dance with poetic balance and the tension between dream and reality\, light and dark. Featuring local and much loved singer/songwriter Felicity Cripps and sharp witted Thumbnail Green\, with appearances from Sam Thomas and Claudia Lang. \n\n\n\nAn honouring of the eternal now\, this is lo-fi\, lo-lit evening will usher you into the season of light with grace\, honesty and equilibrium. \n\n\n\nABOUT THE ARTISTS \n\n\n\nHaving just released her second ‘FCB’ album\, singer/songwriter Felicity Cripps is softly launching her new album\, Chasing Volcanoes – a heartfelt offering\, shimmering with nostalgia and psychedelic tinctures. The new recording features a full band\, creating lush soundscapes\, supporting Felicity’s dreamy\, dark and ethereal vocals.The power of these songs is undeniable when performed solo – each song is brought to life in an acoustic setting\, just vocals and acoustic guitar\, with occasional drum machines and glimmers of the band\, backing an otherwise minimal set. The stories and subtleties behind each song really shine in this stripped-back arrangement\, as Felicity draws her audience into another realm; searching for meaningful connections and portals into other worlds. \n\n\n\nTHUMBNAIL GREEN \n\n\n\nThumbnail Green writes dissident politihop for the times. Hip Hop started as ‘information music’ so protest and awareness could spread from African American neighborhoods. In the true spirit of the art form\, and with a repudiation of the consumerist music landfilling our air waves\, Thumbnail Green writes large about big issues that impact almost everyone on some level. Seeking to make palatable that which is often hard to swallow\, the current round of releases combine humour\, imagery\, funk and serious wordplay. The single ‘Doomsday Prepper’ was a self-effacing look at self-preservation. ‘On a Watch List’ is a scathing retort to the phone surveillance we all live with. The latest release ‘Bounty Hunter’ is a dark fantasy where Aussie farmers find creative and gothic ways to dispose of useless eliters. DESCRIPTION:The days grow longer. The weather warms. The wind changes.Trees draw their sap up from their roots. New shoots emerge.What wisdom have we gathered from our winter hibernation?What nourishment might we offer our new shoots?Reading is a pathway into other times/worlds/perspectives. It is a way of drawing meaning up from the roots of the collective unconscious. This spring workshop presents reading together as a collective philosophical practice. Through collective reading and reflection we will draw out and share wisdom gleaned from pages of poetry\, fragments of essays and other writing that nourishes and help us grow.Participants are invited to bring an excerpt of text to share. \n\n\n\nAll other materials and morning tea provided. \n\n\n\nRegistrations required. If finance is a barrier to attendance\, please get in touch with lot19.  \n\n\n\nFAQs \n\n\n\nWhat is community philosophy?Community Philosophy is a practice of thinking together about the big ideas with compassion\, humility and tenderness.Who is running this workshop?This workshop is run by Dr Kelly Lee Hickey\, an artist and community philosopher. She developed her community philosophy practice through her creative PhD\, which developed a series of creative and place based practices to support communities responding to social and ecological crisis. She has delivered community philosophy workshops and events at arts festivals and conferences across Australia\, and online. Who is this workshop for?Anyone who is wondering how to navigate these times\, or struggling to find direction and hope in the current political and social climate. It is especially useful for activists\, and others involved in front line struggles for social and ecological justice. \n\n\n\nPLEASE NOTE: THIS WORKSHOP IS NOT A THERAPEUTIC SPACE\, NOR IS IT A SUBSTITUTE FOR THERAPY.
